Seek First the Kingdom of God

A pilot always looked down intently on a certain valley in the Appalachians. "Whats so interesting about that spot?" asked a fellow pilot. "See that stream? Well, when I was a kid I used to sit down
there on a log and fish. Every time an airplane flew over, I would look up and wish I were flying... Now I look down and wish I were fishing."

That is pretty much the way it is, isn’t it?  Sometimes even though we get what we want we still aren’t satisfied. We all want more. As children we want more toys… as teenagers we want the newest and latest that everyone else has… as adults we want a nicer house or a newer car… the wish list is endless!

And while we often eventually get more of what we think we need, those things rarely bring more peace, satisfaction or contentment.  More than 2,500 years ago the Prophet Haggai wrote,
"You have planted much but have harvested little. You eat, but you do not become full. You drink, but you are still thirsty. You put on clothes but you are not warm enough. You earn money, but then you lose it all as if you had put it into a purse full of holes. You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little." (Haggai 1:2-6)
Contentment can never be found in the material things of this world.  They may satisfy for a moment, but only  wet our appetites for some more.  When John D Rockefeller was the richest man in the world, someone asked him, “How much money does it take to be happy and content. He replied, "Just a little more!"

God has a better idea.  Listen to this promise: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  To discover God’s plan, we need to first seek the things of God’s kingdom.
